After a Covid interrupted year we finally got to hold the Captain’s Drive-In yesterday observing government guidelines which made for a different format than in normal times but nevertheless held in true PDGC spirit of friendship and glorious spring sunshine. My Vice-Captain, John Atha and 16 Past Captain’s offered their encouragement this year before lining the fairway and watched by a limited number of fellow Members. At just after 1pm, our Club Pro Ian Marshall teed the ball up before I managed to strike the ball 240 yards to the centre right of the fairway, although just running off into the semi, a relief I can tell you! Our Ladies Captain Gill Lamport supported by her Vice-Captain Alison Walker and a small number of the ladies section followed with a drive which split the fairway, well done Gill. Following proceedings Mr. Vice-Captain drew the raffle to win your own car parking space (held over from last year) and was won by Avril Jackson helping to raise £200 towards Clubhouse funds. Thanks to the 120 Gentlemen and 9 Ladies who entered the Captain’s Charity Stableford contributing that amount to the POW Hospice in support of the local community. Finally, I hope we have an uninterrupted year on the golf course and we can soon welcome you back into the Clubhouse following the government roadmap on the 17th May and 21st June respectively. I wish you all good health and a successful golfing year ahead.
