Thank you to the 320 Members who supported my weekend in glorious summer weather. 180 players teamed up in the AM-AM on Saturday with the Gent’s winning team, scoring an excellent 95 points, made up of Mick Godfrey, John Rockett, Peter Siddons and Lee Sapwell. 2nd place, on 89 points went to Paul Kennedy, Garry Jennings, Phil Newman and Tony Billington. 3rd place to Bradley Stirling, Keith Stirling and Chris Box (playing in a 3 ball) also scoring 89 points. Paul Kennedy achieved a hole in one on the 17th, hitting a perfect 6-iron into the green, unfortunately 24 hours too soon as far as the star prize of a £10,000 Peugeot (available on Captain’s Day Sunday) was concerned. I’m sure we all wish to congratulate Paul, whilst also offering commiserations, for hitting the perfect shot but on the wrong day! The Ladies AM-AM was won by Chantelle Shaw, Julie Ludwell, June Highley and Charlotte Hewison with 80 points. All competitors were welcomed for complimentary food and drinks in the marquee on Sunday, situated next to the 9th tee, superbly assisted by my wife Jill, Vice-Captain John Atha and his wife Julie. The 4BBB competition for the Gent’s was won in impressive style by Rob Slater and John Marcon with 47 points. 2nd place to Glenn Trevelyan and Lee Beachill, 45 points. 3rd place Mr. President and Richard Craven, 44 points. The Ladies prize was claimed by Gaynor McMullan and Dawn Elswood with 42 points. In respect of the Hole in One prizes, Craig Megretton came closest to winning the car ( see photo below) so near , yet so far. Great shot though Craig. Huge thanks to the Greens team for presenting the course in cracking condition, to Simon, Jade and the bar team for keeping the ice flowing to the marquee and to the catering foot-soldiers for delivering the food on time. Congratulations to all prize winners, but most of all to you the Members for taking part and helping the Prince of Wales Hospice support the local community. Yours in golf. Malcolm (Club Captain).
