Match report: Seniors v Scarthingwell Wed 15 Sep (H) Wed 22 Sep (A)
These two matches had rearranged dates with both the NHS COVID app contacting our members and Scarthingwell having greens maintenance on nine holes. I have often quoted the competitive spirit of our seniors and the home fixture reinforced the fact with a six games to nil victory to Pontefract. Many thanks to Peter Wainwright standing in at short notice. We were complimented on the condition of the greens, course and post match meal. Many thanks to the Club President, secretary and members for making the rearranged dates available in an already compressed diary. The away match – as we knew – would be extremely competitive, It was played in good spirit even with the freshly hollow tined greens and punishing rough, I have never any doubt in our teams ability and the away match finished slightly in Scarthingwell favour, the overall score was 7½ Pontefract to 4½ Scarthingwell. Outstanding performances of note at Scarthingwell were John Austwick, David Hartas (6 and 5), Graham Daniels and Russ Green (Vice Captain) This is our last team fixture for the season and as Captain has been an unparalleled golfing delight. A huge personal thank you to all our seniors and club staff. Many thanks to Ron, Jackie, Julie and Jade for making the post home match gathering run smoothly. John Gough MBE, Seniors Captain
