Fixtures have been coming thick and fast in the last couple of months and our players have responded with some outstanding golf. Our friendly matches against Wakefield, Waterton Park, Scarthingwell and, as a new venture, Ferrybridge, have all been played in a great spirit and, although these fixtures always count as honourable draws, its fair to say that the broader smiles have been on the faces of the Pontefract players. All our visitors have been fulsome in their praise of the condition of the course and the standard of the catering. In our defence of the Triclub Trophy, we had one of our rare off days at Normanton, resulting in them wresting the trophy from us. However, the spirit in which we came from behind in the last leg to gain second place, ahead of Darrington, augurs well for our attempts to regain the trophy next year. The Harry Harrison Trophy was played on the lovely course at Knaresborough Golf Club on one of the hottest day of the year. The day was thoroughly enjoyed by all, Colin Drinkall being the man to come out on top in the tropical heat, repeating his success of nine years ago. Well played Colin! In the 2 man league, it looks as if our bid for promotion will fall just short despite some valiant performances. Thanks to everyone who has volunteered (or been gently persuaded) to play in the matches. Our next 3 games are against Waterton Park at home Thursday 15th August, Mr Captain’s Team Friday 23rd August, and Wakefield Woodthorpe away on Thursday 29th August. Please put your name on the team sheet on the Rabbits notice board if you can play. If you haven’t played before, do give it a try, you’ll be made more than welcome.
