Monday night the scratch team welcomed the league winners Waterton Park hoping to end their unbeaten run this season. As always a strong team was fielded by Waterton all playing off plus handicaps.
First out was Tom, in a match that would be nip and tuck from the first hole. Tom having a great season played some great golf around the turn to get back level and apply the pressure on his opponent but couldn’t quite stretch an advantage and was all square after 16 holes. A superb iron shot on 17 saw Tom go one up heading up 18 and with a another majestic wedge shot set up a birdie to win his match 2 up. Second out was Ross against an opponent of which always makes for a tough match. His opponent birdied 4 of the first 6 holes and 5 of the first 9 which would see Ross 2 down at the turn and 3 under par for the front 9. A miracle birdie on 13 gave Ross some hope only for his opponent on to hole two 30 footers to kill the game and Ross lose 4&3 although finishing under par for his round.
Last out was Andy, also in great form at the moment and was in for a tough match. The match was as close as the first match out very nip and tuck with both players trying to get hold of the game. Andy headed up 16 all square but was in no mood to be beaten with a real chance of getting a superb victory over the league champions. It came down to the last but a solid routine par meant that we got the huge win which proved vital. Thank you for the support shown from the members too on Monday night treated to some great golf! We have secured our status in division 1 and still have an outside of chance in improving our league position and build for next season but we still have plenty to go after. We are in the Semi finals of the Scratch knockout and also Leeds and district foursomes! Thursday we also have the Leeds and District team Championships at Leeds golf club. As a golf club we should also be very proud in that we have had 3 players from our club who have all been selected to play for Leeds Union Scratch team those players are Andy Wiltshire, Daz Walton and Tom Hough great to see players from our club mixing it with the best players across Yorkshire! It would be brilliant to see a big turn out on Monday night for our last match of the season! Many thanks Ross (Andrew) Scratch Team Captain.
