11th July saw the Seniors play their return match at home against Cobble Hall. As I was away at the time, the team was captained by Alan Hood, our Vice Captain. The result, a massive 6:0 win! Well done to Alan and the Seniors who played in this match. Our next game was away at Hickleton on 15 July. At the request of their acting captain, we had a change from the usual matchplay format to play a betterball Stableford, with the cumulative total from all 6 games determining the result. Hickleton just edged it, winning 236 points to 226. It was back to the matchplay format for our match at home against Scarthingwell who played well on a sunny day following a couple of days of rain which had softened the ground somewhat. The result was a 4:2 win for Scarthingwell – we will seek to reverse this result on our visit to their course in mid-September. On 8th August, we had our Seniors Exchange Day at Cave Castle. This proved very popular with the entire 30 places filling up in a matter of days. A gloriously sunny day, with the course in excellent condition (and some very challenging greens) made for a most enjoyable days golf. Congratulations to Ian Payne, the individual winner and John Hetherington who came second. Thanks to David Field and Peter Lawrie for their organising in advance of this event and to Barry Shaw and John Gough for dealing with all the admin on the day. Hopefully, the success of this event will lead to an exchange day once again becoming a regular fixture for our Seniors. Our next fixture is on Thursday 15th August at home against Hickleton. As quite a number of Seniors are away in Scarborough on that day, can I ask Senior players who are available to put themselves forward for this match – even if you don’t normally play in these matches. Looking a little further ahead, we have a home match against Howley Hall on 22nd August and another home match against Selby on 27th August. Team sheets will go up on the noticeboard very soon. Happy golfing, Jon Fraise Seniors Captain
