Andy Wiltshire and Ross Andrew travelled to Selby on Friday evening to take on Hessle with a chance to reach the semi finals of the competition. The Pontefract pair got off to their usual fast start, 1 up through 2 holes but were soon pegged back and trailing through 6 by one. Through 7 it was all square but a great birdie from Hessle saw them take the lead after 9 holes! Chances slipped by at 10 and 11 and following a short putt missed on 12 by Ross the Pontefract duo were 2 down but level par! 2 birdies in a row were to follow for Ross and Andy but only good enough to pull one hole back. The 16th provided more drama, a 15 footer to keep the match 1 down which Ross holed after a tough night on the greens. More drama unfolded on 17 as a 3 foot putt was left for Hessle to win the game but missed. Following all the good fortune so far in the game a little karma for Andy and Ross was shown! As grandstand finishes come the 18th at Selby provides one. A slight pull off the tee forced Ross to lay up leaving Andy 82 yards and the perfect shot was played as Andy holed out for an eagle 3 and meant the match went to extra holes! The tough Par 4 opening hole was played again and the perfect tee shot by Ross left Andy to find the target, Ross then lipped out for birdie leaving Andy a 4 footer which never looked like missing to claim victory on the first extra hole. This means Pontefract reach the semi finals after looking down and out before a stunning final 6 holes see the pair progress!
